Short answer: most freelancers who make a few proposals or pitch decks a month should start on Gamma Free to test it, then move to Plus at $9/month billed annually ($12 monthly). Plus removes the "Made with Gamma" badge and gives you 1,000 AI credits every month. Pay for Pro ($18/month annually, $25 monthly) only if you need your own branding, viewer analytics on proposals, password-protected links or a custom domain.

Gamma plans at a glance
| Plan | Annual billing | Monthly billing | AI credits | Slides per prompt | Key extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 400 at signup, no refresh | 10 | Import PDF/PPTX; export PDF, PPTX, PNG, Google Slides |
| Plus | $9/seat/mo ($108/yr) | $12/seat/mo | 1,000/month | 100 | Remove Gamma branding, advanced image models |
| Pro | $18/seat/mo ($216/yr) | $25/seat/mo | 4,000/month | 100 | Premium image models, custom branding, detailed analytics, advanced sharing, 10 custom domains, API access |
| Ultra | $90/seat/mo ($1,080/yr) | $100/seat/mo | 20,000/month | 100 | Most advanced text, image and video models, 100 custom domains, early access |
Gamma also sells a Business plan at $40/seat/month billed annually ($480 per seat a year). It comes with 10,000 monthly credits per seat, shared workspace credits, SSO and advanced data controls. Enterprise is custom-priced. A solo freelancer won't need either.
Annual billing saves "up to 28%" according to Gamma. Here is the math for one seat:
- Plus: $108/year vs $144 paid monthly. You save $36.
- Pro: $216/year vs $300 paid monthly. You save $84.
- Ultra: $1,080/year vs $1,200 paid monthly. You save $120.
Pricing is per seat. If you add a subcontractor to your workspace, Gamma bills each extra member at the same rate.
How Gamma's AI credits actually work
Credits are the limit that matters most, so here is what Gamma's help center says about them:
- What uses credits: generating a presentation with Create with AI (metered per slide and per image), editing with the AI Agent, adding cards with AI and trying new layouts. Gamma says the rates "are subject to change".
- What doesn't: manual editing. If you run out of credits on a paid plan, you can still edit by hand and use every non-AI feature. You also aren't charged when an AI action fails, errors out or asks you a clarifying question.
- Refresh: paid plans refresh credits on your billing date, not on the 1st of the month. On annual plans, credits still arrive monthly, not as one big yearly pile.
- Rollover: unused plan credits roll over up to 2x your monthly amount. Plus tops out at 2,000 and Pro at 8,000.
- Free plan: you get 400 starter credits that never refill. You can earn 200 credits per referral, and you can hold up to 2,000 at a time.
- Top-ups: paid users can buy 1,500 credits for $6, either as a one-time purchase (single-user workspaces) or through auto-recharge. Purchased credits don't count toward the rollover cap and never expire while you're subscribed.
What we can't tell you: how many credits a typical 10-slide proposal uses. Gamma doesn't publish a fixed per-deck figure. Usage depends on the model, the number of slides and images, and how long the generation is. Gamma also doesn't yet show a credit history for each deck. The honest way to find out is to note your balance, generate one realistic client deck, and check again.
There is a second, quieter limit: tokens per generation. This is how much input text Gamma will process in one go in the classic generator. Free allows up to 50,000 tokens, while Plus and Pro allow up to 100,000. It only matters if you paste in a long brief or transcript, for example the notes from a discovery call.
Which Gamma plan fits which freelancer
Stay on Free if…
- You make one or two decks to see if Gamma suits how you work.
- You're happy to export to PPTX or Google Slides and finish the design there. Free includes those exports.
- You don't mind the "Made with Gamma" badge on shared or exported work.
The catch is that 400 credits are a one-time allowance. Free is a trial with no time limit, not a plan you can run a business on.
Upgrade to Plus ($9/mo annual) if…
- You send proposals, pitch decks or one-page sites to clients and want them unbranded. Removing the Gamma badge is the main reason to pay.
- You want longer decks from one prompt. Plus allows up to 100 slides per prompt, against 10 on Free.
- 1,000 credits a month (up to 2,000 banked) covers your volume.
For most solo consultants, designers and marketers, Plus is the sweet spot. It's the same price as many single-purpose tools, and it fits inside our AI tool stack for freelancers under $50/month.
Upgrade to Pro ($18/mo annual) if…
- You want to know when a client opens your proposal. Gamma's help center describes Pro's detailed analytics as letting you "view individual viewer engagement details."
- You share sensitive pricing or strategy. Pro adds headers and footers, password protection and other advanced sharing options.
- You publish client-facing microsites. Pro lets you publish up to 10 multi-page sites to your own domains.
- You want your own brand applied as custom branding, or API access to generate decks from an automation. Plan the automation side with our Zapier vs Make vs n8n comparison.
- You use 1,000+ credits a month. Pro's 4,000 credits cost $9 more per month than Plus. Buying credits on Plus costs $6 per 1,500, so compare the two at your real usage.
Ultra ($90–$100/mo)
Ultra is for heavy users who want 20,000 credits and access to Gamma's most advanced text, image and video models. One note: a Gamma help article says Ultra is monthly-only at an introductory price, but the pricing page we checked on 28 Oct 2026 shows an annual option at $90/seat/month. The pricing page is the one to trust. For a freelancer, Ultra rarely makes sense unless decks are your main product.
A simple freelancer workflow that saves credits
- Record the discovery call with a free note taker. See our best AI meeting note taker for freelancers roundup.
- Trim the summary to the client's goals, scope, timeline and budget before you paste it into Gamma. Shorter input stays well inside the token limit and makes for a shorter, cheaper generation.
- Generate once, then edit by hand. Manual edits are free. Each new "fix this" prompt is a new AI action and uses credits. Gamma notes that changing one slide generally uses fewer credits than regenerating the whole gamma.
- Export to PDF or PPTX if the client wants a file, or share a link (on Pro, with a password and viewer analytics).
- Reuse your best deck as the starting point for the next proposal instead of generating from scratch.
Billing details worth knowing
- No traditional free trial. Every account starts on Free with 400 credits and no time limit. No card is required.
- Upgrades are prorated. Moving from Plus to Pro mid-cycle charges only the difference for the days left. Downgrades take effect at the end of the billing cycle.
- Cancelling: you keep paid features and credits until the period ends, then drop to Free. Your plan credits reset to 400. Purchased credits are kept but expire one year after cancellation. Your content stays yours.
- Payment: Gamma accepts major credit and debit cards and also lists direct payment from US or EU bank accounts.
Verdict
Gamma is one of the cheapest ways for a solo freelancer to send proposals that look professional. Start on Free, generate one real client deck, and watch how many credits it uses. If the result is good enough to send, Plus at $9/month (annual) removes the branding and covers most freelancers. Choose Pro when proposal analytics, password-protected links or a custom domain will help you close work.
